The artist.
The man.
01 / About KuttaBefore the name, before the verses, before the mic—there was the Lowend. Both sides of Kutta Da General’s family come from there. It gave him more than a place to claim. It taught him structure. It taught him how to organize. It helped shape the way he moves.
“It means everything… my whole family from the low end both sides!!!”— Kutta Da General
From the drums to the mic.
He always wanted to rap. While he was playing drums at church, a friend introduced him to the microphone and helped him develop as a music artist. The rhythm was already there. Now he had another way to make himself heard.
On tracks with other artists, people waited for his verse. When it arrived, they said he was “kuttin’ up.” Kutta took the name. Later came “Da General,” drawn from the way he spoke on topics in his raps. The name grew out of what he did on the music.
What the work really takes.
Ask him which songs reflect the man he is now and he names “Hard Work” and “5Ps.” The principle behind them is one he lives by: proper preparation prevents poor performance. Put in the work. Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready.
He knows how easy it is for people to see a finished song and imagine an overnight success. He knows the sacrifice and focus behind it. And he is direct about the part artists cannot do alone: it takes a team. People will ask what you are doing with your music. Far fewer will ask how they can help. His message is simple: support your people before the world does.
The man behind the music.
Kutta will tell you that life at each moment of creation shaped his sound. He approaches a track with a hit in mind, gives it his best, and accepts where it lands. He is honest about the time and energy he wishes he had invested more consistently in his own music, instead of letting others misuse his gifts. That honesty is part of his story. So is the decision to keep going.
He is an artist who knows where he comes from, a drummer who found his voice, and a man still betting on the work ahead. From the Lowend of Chicago: Kutta Da General.
